Dream Coats in Technicolour
Colour and warmth with a healthy dose of winter style from woman-owned brands
Hello friend,
Be gone with you winter. Take your grey, blizzardy skies and arctic air. Take your slippery, filthy roads and your salt that ruins my boots. Take your snow days that keep my kids home, under foot and aimless. I’ve had enough!
Did my spell work? Not quite yet.
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, as they say. I decided to look on the bright side and reacquaint myself with my favourite Canadian woman-owned coat brands, each of which offer colourful options to wait out the rest of the season in cheery, stylish warmth. Coats are always a great investment, giving you instant style, no matter how basic your underlayer. I hope you like my picks!
We are happy to welcome a new sponsor this week. Many thanks to Inflow for joining us in our mission to shine light on incredible woman-owned brands. We appreciate the support!
Enjoy!

I am a big fan of Sasha Jardine and her brand Ste.Marg.Scot. Her colourful wool coats in traditional silhouettes, made modern, make my heart sing. Recently, I spotted a woman wearing the very coat pictured above at the arena where my son plays hockey. I wasn’t quick enough to catch up, but she was a vision in fuchsia.

If I had to pick a favourite from LUXTON (I would wear every single style), it would be this alpaca wool blend overcoat in medium blue. I love the simple silhouette over everything from sweats to an evening look. Just like every Luxton coat, the construction is far from simple. They are designed “from the inside out” to ensure a perfect, weightless feel.

You will definitely command attention in this vegan suede and faux Mongolian fur number in green from FREED. Each of its styles are bold and beautiful, always made with animal and cruelty-free fabrics. I love the look of this wrap coat over a crisp white tee and jeans as the days get warmer.

Some say grey isn’t a colour, but if you ask me, it’s the perfect neutral. This elegant coat by Israella Kobla is timeless elegance in 100% wool. My favourite thing about it is the wide belt. Take a closer look!

It won’t be long before the snow makes way for spring rain. Be prepared with the stylish slicker created by a Newfoundlander inspired by the garments fish harvesters wear to keep dry. They come in a rainbow of colours, just like the colourful homes that dot the shores of The Rock.

If you have some time on your hands this weekend, why not make your own bird feeder and welcome some feathered friends. This is just the sweetest thing!
It’s still soup season and this golden bowl caught my eye. Make it today!
My cast iron pans have seen better days. I learned a couple things about how to refurbish and maintain them in this article. Maybe you will too.
By now, you probably know Rachel Reid’s series Heated Rivalry is a big deal. But you may not know how big. Read on for Heated Rivalry by the numbers.
I’m not the crafting type but I do appreciate a good craft. I’m currently obsessed with this “free motion embroiderer” meaning she draws and writes freehand with her sewing machine. Brilliant!
