Turkish Delights

We're All In on Turkey

Hello friend,

We’ve been dreaming of a summer getaway and Turkey keeps drawing us in. The country is rich in culture and history. The food is healthy and delicious. The scenery is breathtaking. We also stumbled on some news that made us realize how challenging it can be for women entrepreneurs to do business in Turkey. The government shut down Instagram for more than a week this month because it felt the platform didn’t comply with the country’s information laws. This had a devastating effect on women-owned businesses who rely on Instagram to promote and sell their goods. This tidbit pulled on our heartstrings and propelled us to do a deep dive on all things Turkey.

In this week’s newsletter we explore women-owned businesses overseas and some closer to home with a Turkish bent. Be inspired by Mehtap Elaidi’s eponymous line of bold, yet timeless designs that often headline in Turkey’s fashion week; Did you know most of the world’s rose oil is produced in Turkey? Find it in its purest form in Gülşah Gürkan’s skin care line; if you can’t make it to Turkey, try the recipes Özlem Warren has curated in her new cookbook Sezbe to celebrate her homeland and bring the flavours of Eurasia to your kitchen; or experience the benefits of a Turkish Bath with a Canadian twist in Toronto at Hammam Spa by Céla; and if you’re like us and you’re ready to book your ticket, be sure to check in with Megan Grant, Founder of Cherish Tours first. Her top five experiences in Turkey for women will have you packing your bags!
