The Vancouver Issue

A Day in Vancouver With Some Incredible Woman-Owned Brands

In partnership with

Hello friend,

My son and his girlfriend are travelling with her family to Vancouver and Victoria in the next little while, and the plans are putting me in a West Coast state of mind. The mountains, the ocean, the laid-back lifestyle, and the early spring temperatures all sound so enticing as we brave our never-ending winter in Toronto.

This week in the newsletter I thought it would be fun to explore some of the places I would visit if I were heading west. Of course, there are enterprising women behind each of them. If you happen to be in Vancouver next week (there is one time-sensitive suggestion and it’s a big SALE), think of the stories below as an itinerary. You’re welcome!

Many thanks to Elite Trade Club for sponsoring this week’s newsletter. I appreciate the support. If your business would like to partner with Genuinely Stellar on an issue of the newsletter, reply to this email and let’s talk!

Enjoy!

Refuel after a day of shopping or sightseeing in Vancouver with a healthy lunch at Field & Social. What started as a salad-only restaurant has branched to include healthy sandwiches, and it’s just the thing to keep you fulfilled and energetic as you roam the city.

When kindness is at the heart of a brand, I’m immediately drawn in. Melodie Reynolds of Elate Beauty is kindness personified, and her beauty brand Elate is about being kind to ourselves and the planet. You can find her full product line-up at a gem of a boutique in Vancouver called Harlow.

When I interviewed the Founder of Jaybird last year, she invited me to try a few classes at the Yorkville location. I was nervous to try her brand of pilates (which happens in a dark room with thumping music), but it was invigorating, not the least bit intimidating and next time I’m in Vancouver I will visit one of the studios were it all started.

If you envision a life “well-styled” you must visit the Edgemont Village neighbourhood of North Vancouver, where Lisa Wrixon is creating a shopping experience that is warm, welcoming and enticing. Your home and your closet will be better for it.

Don’t you wish someone would just tell you what to make for dinner? How does Thai Yellow Coconut Curry sound? I’m making it tonight. Will you?

If the winter doldrums have you down, retail therapy can be expensive. Try styling your existing pieces to create new looks with the help of this stylist who can show you how to work with what you’ve got. Thanks for the tips Afiya!

Are you watching Love Story? If you’re anything like me, you’re watching as much for the ‘90s fashions as you are for the love story itself. Getting the iconic looks of Carolyn Bessette and JFK Jr right was more difficult than you might think.

Getting enough protein feels like mission impossible most days. Here are some pantry staples to keep on hand to easily add to your daily protein intake.
