Wine Anyone?

We're serving up stories of women in the wine world

Hello friend,

In the past few weeks, we’ve been out and about, meeting some of our subscribers and giving them the experience of a Genuinely Stellar wine tasting. Our resident sommelier, Tonia Wilson walked them through a red, a white and a sparkling in her engaging, unpretentious way. It was such fun and generated thoughtful questions and discussion about wine, so we thought we’d uncork some great stories about women in the wine world and dedicate an entire issue to it.

Tonia starts us off with a lesson on natural wines; we feature a woman who grew up on a vineyard who approaches her company’s skin care formulations with the same precision as a winemaker; we visit a vineyard in Napa that mixes wine with wellness; Tonia recommends a memoir from a woman who charts an unlikely path to becoming a sommelier; and it just so happens that “wine” is a hot colour for fall fashion. We share some ways to wear it.

In addition to today’s newsletter, we have some more wine content planned down the road. Be sure to follow on Instagram to see what we have in store! Also, if you would like to bring your friends, neighbours or colleagues together for a casual, fun and informative virtual wine tasting with Tonia, simply reply to this email and we will send you the details.

Enjoy!

Natural wine, what is it? Isn’t all of it natural? Tonia will run down the basics of natural wine and what to expect from a bottle of it.

When you grow up on a vineyard, you end up learning about the process of winemaking. Turns out, it’s also an excellent background for formulating skin care products.

The terms wine and wellness may seem to be at odds, but they are completely in sync at this winery in Napa that prizes community and wellbeing along with its vintages.

The memoir of sommelier and restaurateur Victoria James will have you feeling many emotions; inspiration being one. The book pairs perfectly with Pinot Noir & a cozy blanket.

Head-to-toe Bordeaux is a look we are coveting this fall as an alternative to all-black. We have some ideas on how you can pull it off.

Watch this space for five quick things to make your life a little richer.

Sommelier and restaurateur Lesle Gibson knows great wine, and she wants to share it with you. Her wine agency Gibson Family Group consists completely of women; whom she calls her Wine Angels, and their mission is to get great and interesting wine into your glass. Their Cork Club tasting packs do just that.

Sour Grapes is a rare glimpse into the privileged world of very fine wine, the type only a few will ever taste. It is also the true story of how a young and charming counterfeiter pulled one over on some of the world’s richest and well known wine collectors.

The Somm app unlocks a world of taste by acting as your personal sommelier and a digital wine cellar. Its founder, Toronto-based Jennifer Tremblay also created the DINR app, giving access to coveted restaurant reservations at some of the best restaurants.

Jessie Haliburton and her husband Shane have one goal; to bring the best non-alcoholic drinks to as many people as possible. Their Søbr Market gives loads of choices at their 4 locations (one in Winnipeg and three in Toronto) as well as online ordering. Cheers!

If you’re heading to Prince Edward County this fall, be sure to arrive between Oct 25 and Nov 17 to participate in Countylicious Where restaurants, breweries and wineries deliver specially-priced food & drink options showcasing the region’s best offerings.
